Surgical endoscopy has been more than a significant and revolutionary technique in the world of medicine over the last century, and in surgery particularly. In gynecology for instance, this new tool has reached a high level of technological development, which has led to its application in the daily live surgery in the Hospitals.

Invented and developed in Europe, the use of gynecological endoscopy is growing in the standard procedures as well as and in Gynecology, where up to 10 years ago open or vaginal surgery prevailed. To provide training and didactic tools, the European Institute of Endoscopic Science was founded in the 1997 by Prof. Luca Mencaglia, after many years of teaching Endoscopy courses all over the world.

The main objective of EIES is to provide students an opportunity to learn theoretical/practical aspects with emphasis on practical training, including many hours of hands-on training with pelvic trainers under the supervision of the best surgeons and teachers in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

The workgroups have a limited number of participants, accompanied by professors and instructors, allowing for valuable experience to be exchanged in an excellent atmosphere promoting open discussion. More than 1500 students have taken part in the Project since these courses were established and more than 80% of them are currently performing hysteroscopy and laparoscopy in the OR. This high rate of success is the result of a correct application of educational methods during the courses and a high-level preparation of the educational endo team.

Today, the tutors of the educational & training team (ETT) are selected during local courses and some students are chosen to go into the endotraining team. The EIES is supported by the local ETT Group in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Caracas (Venezuela), Santiago (Chile), and Mexico City (Mexico). The ETT has been trained with hard rigorous tutoring courses in the training high school (THS) in Florence (Italy) or in other EIES qualified Centers all over the world.

In Europe and Latin America, several courses are organized annually, where the most modern endoscopic equipment and several kinds of particular pelvic trainers and simulators, especially developed for our training courses, are used.
